Multiple Platforms: The Wall Street Journal

As it expanded, The Wall Street Journal needed to maintain a consistent brand message and user experience across multiple editions and platforms.

The development of a modular system for Information Architecture and UX was a key part of the solution, since these components could easily be recombined for different experiences and/or “skinned” with CSS and adapted to different devices and editions. The site in this way was designed to be “intentional” based on editorial needs, not just responsive by device.

The modular nature of the site allowed WSJ to deliver content to one million digital subscribers (at that time) on 3 regional editions covering the U.S., Europe and Asia, and 8 local language editions on multiple devices, including desktop, tablet and smart phone.
